A rare, nearly forgotten indigenous variety, Mavri Volitsa grows at high altitude in Aigialeia and takes its name from its minute, round berries — like tiny marbles on the vine. This particular bottling comes from a 42-year-old field-blend vineyard at 710 metres, a small-batch discovery from Tetramythos as they keep unearthing the varietal treasures of their region. It pours light, translucent ruby with violet edges and offers an ethereal, floral nose — cherry, cranberry, red wildflowers — layered with fresh herbs and earth. On the palate it's crisp, light, and elegant, with barely-there tannins and lively acidity that make it a wine of real freshness and grace. Best served at cellar temp., with meat in light sauces, tomato-based dishes, or yellow cheeses — proof that Greece's indigenous varieties aren't merely history, but the future of serious, terroir-driven wine.
