The single-vineyard label 'Skafida' embodies all the energy and strength of Assyrtiko to create a rare wine with extraordinary levels of complexity. Shaped like a trough the Skafida vineyard seems to hover due to its steep slope at 180 meters above sea level in Pyrgos, a village with a long viticultural tradition, as evidenced by its own-rooted vines over 150 years old, trained in the traditional kouloura method.
The vineyard is composed of a volcanic mix of basalt, pumice, ash, and solidified lava, lending the wine its striking minerality and signature volcanic character. The low yields of the old vines result in a small quantity of grapes with exceptional concentration. Cold maceration, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in inox tanks and minimal sulfites allow 'Skafida' to capture the viticultural heritage and terroir of the island in a single bottle.
