The Metagitnion is a Mega-Wine and something of a unicorn: single-vineyard Vostilidi from 90-plus-year-old ungrafted bush vines, sat just alongside the winery, are farmed biodynamically and picked late in September. Amber to orange in the glass (without skin contact), it opens with roasted nuts, carrot and apricot marmalade. The palate is generous, fat, robust, with a tantalising tannic grip and oxidative flair carried by a short stay in foudres. It finishes long and warming, weaving together everything from lanolin and saffron to cantaloupe and whisky in a unique tapestry that stretches across time to your thirsty lips.
