Grown on the slopes of Mt. Vermio and drawing on the pedigree of the clay-rich Paliokalias vineyard, the flagship Naoussa from Yannis ‘Johnny’ Mittas opens in a hedonistic nosegay of raspberry, red cherry and ripe plum—it is floral-edged and pure, with tomato leaf, tobacco and black olive underneath and, like the wrangler himself, a little mystical.
Spontaneously fermented, matured a year in barrels large and small, and bottled with minimal sulphur, it drinks beautifully when young but should really sing after five or six years.
